12  ROUTES FROM THE VILLAGE

The following 12 routes, ranging in length from 3 kms to 13 kms, are easily accessible from the village.  These routes are fully signposted with Roman numerals on ceramic plaques and blue painted stripes. All have detailed written instructions in English and Spanish, which can be downloaded in pdf formatbelow (click on each link). You can also follow each route on wikiloc, using GPS technology.

Another excellent source of information written in English is a book written by local author Patrick Elvin “50 walks through Gaucín, Andalusia”, and is available to buy at the stationery shop in town or on Amazon.
Alternatively you can hire a local guide like Enrique Higuera who will show you all the secrets of the paths of the Serranía de Ronda.

If you would like further information about the Town Hall routes please, send an email to gaucindaywalks@gmail.com

GREAT TRAIL OF THE SERRANIA DE RONDA

The area of Gaucín offers fantastic hiking opportunities for any level of experience.  The 98 square kilometres of the municipality are a paradise of biodiversity and beauty with breath-taking views on even the shortest routes.  Many of the routes are ancient paths walked by muleteers between the villages of the Serranía. The trails around Gaucín are part of the GR141 Gran Sendero de la Serranía de Ronda, a spectacular long-distance hiking route.  The GR 141 is a circular route of 110 km in 6 stages starting and finishing in Ronda, passing through the mountain ranges and valleys of the rivers Guadiaro and Genal. Gaucín is featured in Stage 3 – “El Colmenar to Benarrabá”.
